“The HECS Ball emerged from a bunch of stars aligning. First, there’s a real struggle to practice racket skills without being on the court. Badminton wasn’t a sport where you can take practice home with you, like with an instrument. Secondly, there was no productive, safe, and fun way to spend more time practicing at home. Shuttles dent walls and are too difficult to control. It’s also boring to sit there pretending to hit shots and I couldn’t ask that of my students. Lastly, the science behind rapid skill improvement has always been fascinating to me, so stumbling upon a design that combined all of these elements was pretty lucky.
After dozens of prototypes, I finally had something I was happy with. I immediately felt the results on-court, so I knew I was onto something.
Now I'm glad to say, it’s easy for anyone to get 100 high quality, sport-specific reps in a minute or so, wherever you have a bit of space.”
